Redirection[edit]

Why when I search for H•A•M I am redirected to Kanye West's article, instead of H•A•M's article?

When the redirect was created, this article had not existed. The redirect has been updated. ►Scarce◄ 02:21, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

H.A.M → H.A.M. — Since there has been no debate about this before, I see no reason not to create one now.

  1. "H.A.M." is perhaps the initials of "hard as a motherfucker", which is lyrics from the song.
  2. If the article is titled "H.A.M", it could also with reason be titled "H*A*M" which has actually been used by West.
  3. The correct title would be "H•A•M" as that is the title that is used by Jay-Z, iTunes and the album's official Facebook page. And please remember, the dots (•) are simply bullets and therefore do not go against Wikipedia:Naming conventions (technical restrictions)

"H.A.M." is the only title used by MTV, such as Is 'H.A.M.' A Hit?: Radio Dissects Jay-Z And Kanye West's Duet, see also the tag. So currently, I support the move to "H.A.M." or "H•A•M" ►Scarce◄ 02:48, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: A quick news search reveals it's actually either written mostly "H.A.M" or "H.A.M.". I see MTV doesn't use it consistently ("H.A.M." here, but "H.A.M" here and even both in this story as well as this one). There also seems to be differing spellings from many reliable sources, aside from the ones that omit the full stops (i.e. "HAM"). Rolling Stone, the National Post, The Washington Post, and others calls it "H.A.M." while Entertainment Weekly, Spin, etc. use "H.A.M". On the other hand, Billboard uses "H.A.M." in an article, but it charted as "H*A*M". Also, The Independent uses "H*A*M". There doesn't seem to be consistency within third-party sources. Moving to the single cover, it is written "HAM" with two circles between the letters. At first, I thought they were interpuncts (·), but looking at the official Facebook page as well as the item on the iTunes Store, it turns out they are actually bullets (•). The single cover doesn't really tell us if they are interpuncts or bullets, and they also appear like diamonds (♦), as well, as can be seen in an alternate single cover here. I was actually unsure if the bullets were against naming policies or not, but if they aren't, being the "official" name, I support the move to "H•A•M". Yves (talk) 03:29, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment -- I have no idea who this band is, but it shoudl not appear like an abbreviation. I would expand H.A.M. to Hear to Africa Mission, the original name for what is now WEC International. Peterkingiron (talk) 21:27, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - This is the same as N.E.R.D. Their name is stylized as N*E*R*D, without having a star after the D, so there shouldn't be a period there. ℥nding·start 23:28, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Abbreviation[edit]

    In cited Billboard, IndieWire and MTV articles, I found "H.A.M.", so that is what I suggest. Also note the WP:TSC is another argument against the current title. —⁠ ⁠BarrelProof (talk) 19:25, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
