Dbanj And Don Jazzy[edit]

hello wikipedians. i am new at this and not sure where or how this would turn up. i just read D'banj's wikipedia article and i am afrain its not elaborate enough. For one his highly publicised fallout with fellow Mo hits crew partner Don Jazzy was not included. i have already written a section based on that. am i free to go ahead and edit? Thanks.

Rape allegations[edit]

I see there's been some disagreement on whether to include the rape/coercion allegations. I've restored a brief mention as they are now being reported interationally.[1] gobonobo + c 22:11, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Gobonobo, no you may not include a very controversial ongoing allegation to a BLP until a consensus is reached here on the talk page & at such a time a consensus is reached, including that content to the article is rather too sensitive as we do not want to handle with kid gloves, very controversial defamatory content to biographies of living persons. What is most absurd is the individual who accused subject of the article made an official statement via her social media account acknowledging that the incident was a publicity stunt. If you observe the history of the article you’d see it was auticonfirmed protected because various editors blatantly repeatedly included this same sexual assault defamatory content oblivious of the fact that it was s hoax/Pr stunt. At this juncture it’s just good practice we involve expert Nigerian editors who are more knowledgeable in this regard to !vote & reach a consensus before attempting to include such defamatory contents to the article especially now when the accuser has explicitly posted via her Twitter social media that all was a publicity stunt to promote the new musical single of our subject of discussion. I commend your experience here per including the information in the “personal life” section but unfortunately I’d have to disagree with you & take it down. Per WP:NOTNEWS also. According to Gobonobo's source - which I say fulfills WP:EXCEPTIONAL - Babatayo claimed that she "was isolated from [her] family, coerced, pressured and intimidated in person by D’banj and his team to retract all statements and to announce that [her] testimony was a publicity stunt". Launchballer, sourcing has never been the problem. The problem is this occurrence is “too hot” & is in a state of “quick silver” as information is changing too rapidly for us to do anything other than watch as it plays out before jumping to include that shaky information. Now the accuser claimed originally that subject of this article sexually assaulted her in 2018 then officially claimed it was a hoax/PR stunt & then changed it once again to say he did in fact sexually abuse her. Per WP:NOTNEWS it’s not our duty to keep giving breaking news on events. Hence, what’s the only logical thing to do? It’s either we reach a consensus here on if or not to add the information or more preferably, remove anything pertaining to this sexual abuse & wait until further notice & watch as this turns out hence we rush & publish what might be a hoax/expensive joke/PR stunt move gone too far. Furthermore from what I’m reading in real time, the hotel in which the alleged assault occured has officially denied having the subject of article in their premise at the purported time this abuse occurred. Although I once again commend Gobonobo for their use of neutral wordings & properly placing that entry under the “personal life” section I still strongly would object the inclusion of that information being in that article seeing as we ought to have carried out a !vote consensus here first. I’d have pinged my expert Nigerian co-editors who are by default more knowledgeable in this regard to give their input but unfortunately almost all of them have gone semi inactive. With respect I don't see what nationality's got to do with anything. WP:NOTNEWS begins by saying that "editors are encouraged to include current and up-to-date information within its coverage". My reading is that his accuser's position is that she has never willingly retracted her statement. I would suggest you post at WP:DRN.--Launchballer 00:41, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Celestina007: Yeah, I purposely left off the section header and toned down the language so as to comply with WP:BLPPUBLIC and WP:DUE. It is now just three sentences, one of which is his own denial of the accusations. I can see leaving this off when it was just an accusation on Twitter. The thing is, this story has really blown up in the past couple of days. D'banj has addressed the issue publicly and twice talked with the police. At this point, I feel like not mentioning it at all would be more conspicuous. Clearly, as the situation evolves, we can adjust how we approach it, but counting York4044 and Launchballer, I'm seeing a consensus to keep it in at this point. gobonobo + c 00:57, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I was going to initially blank your entry at the “Personal life” section after our first discussion but having observed, read, & re-read the manner in which you were articulate & diplomatic when presenting the information I said to myself “fair enough”. I agree. If it is about the wording then edit as you see fit but the allegations cannot just not exist on the page at all. It is not just "news" at this point. I don't think the language of "sexual assault allegations" is inflammatory, take a look at the pages of any of the #metoo folks. York4044 (talk) 01:02, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Right now we've got In June 2020, a woman claimed on social media that D'banj had raped her in 2018;[44] a subsequent claim via her social media that said claims were a publicity stunt to promote a new single was later claimed to have been made as a result of Nigerian police detaining her and turning her over to D'banj's management team, who tried to get her to retract the allegations. D'banj denied the accusations, calling them "false allegations and lies from the pit of hell." On 3 July 2020, D'banj sued Seyitan Babatayo, the Nigerian lady, who accused him of rape for N1.5 billion.[ I think this is non-neutral. The woman -- whom we don't even NAME until D'banj SUES HER, is "claiming" all over the place. Claim is a word that inherently questions what someone is saying. D'banj is allowed to "deny" and be quote 'calling them "false allegations."' This needs a rewrite to be neutral. I see there's been previous discussion so didn't want to just jump in without discussing first.
I'd suggest

Shortly thereafter she went missing for two days, and while she was missing posts made to her social media said the allegations had been a publicity stunt to support an upcoming D'banj single. According to the Guardian, she was found with help from the NGO Stand to End Rape (STER). She said she'd been abducted by Nigerian police, who turned her over to D'banj's management team who co-opted her social media and made the retraction posts. D'banj denied the accusations, calling them "false allegations and lies from the pit of hell." On 3 July 2020, D'banj sued Babatayo for N1.5 billion.

Okay, after doing a bit more research, there's more here. Here's my new suggestion:
In June 2020, after D'banj had posted to social media to "say no to rape," Seyitan Babatayo accused him of raping her in 2018, saying she wanted to "[call] him out on his hyprocrisy."[1][2][3][4][5] Shortly thereafter she went missing for two days, and while she was missing posts made to her social media said the allegations had been a publicity stunt to support an upcoming D'banj single.[2] According to The Guardian, she was found with help from the NGO Stand to End Rape (STER).[2] She said she'd been abducted by Nigerian police, who turned her over to D'banj's management team who co-opted her social media and made the retraction posts.[2] D'banj denied the accusations, calling them "false allegations and lies from the pit of hell."[2][6] After several days Babatayo issued a statement saying she and D'banj had agreed upon a "non-monetary" settlement, saying, "I just want my peace."[3]
On 3 July 2020, D'banj sued Babatayo for N1.5 billion.[7] Shortly thereafter, D'banj's former manager Franklin Amudo reported that Babatayo had told him D'banj had raped her the day after the alleged rape.[8][9][10]
