Magdalene laundries in Ireland[edit]

When I passed by this article just now there were no wikilinks to Magdalene laundries in Ireland nor to any "laundry", but the history shows some text was split out from here (see also Talk:Magdalene asylum#Magdalene laundries in Ireland now split out). I added two links to the See also section - please see my edit comments requesting improvement here; I also added clarify tag for the first mention of laundries - without context (has too much explanatory text been removed maybe?) I was at a loss to understand the connection. I considered tagging the article for general cleanup due to the confusing expansion section but I'll leave it for now. -84user (talk) 09:25, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Merge?[edit]

In 1641 John Eudes founded the Order of Our Lady of Charity of the Refuge in Caen. It's current page is listed as "Order of Our Lady of Charity".
In 1835 Mary Euphrasia Pelletier and associates split off to form a separate religious institute the "Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd of Angers." That page was at one time listed as "Good Shepherd Sisters" but redirected in March 2014 to the "Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd".
In June 2014 the two communities merged taking the name: Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd.
While perhaps slightly premature, the title of the former Good Shepherd Sisters is in fact accurate as of June 2014; that of Our Lady of Charity now obsolete. Should it now be merged (as was the order) into the Congregation... page? Although the Order of Our Lady of Charity was made up of separate and autonomous communities in about ten countries, two or three in Ireland were involved in the Magdalen Launderies business, thus making this Order an apparently sensitive issue for some editors. However, as the Good Shepherd Sisters were as well, no relevant information should be lost. I am soliciting views on the matter of consolidating the pages. Snide comments are not productive. The Congregation started out with Eudes, The Good Shepherd Sisters trace their beginning back to Our Lady of Charity. The two congregations merged into one OVER FIVE YEARS AGO. "Through a Journey of Enrichment in which history, spirituality, and charism were shared, a decision was reached for reunification through merger. The merger decree came into effect and the reunification was celebrated on June 27, 2014." -But by all means keep them separate even though they aren't and have one and the same generalate and governance. Relationship with Magdalene Asylums, also known as Magdalene Laundries[edit]

How many of the Magdalene Asylums were run by these sisters? It is unclear how many such places they ran in Australia that were subject to the review. --Iloilo Wanderer (talk) 11:51, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Latin[edit]

The Latin name of the Congregation is written “Congregationis Sororum a Bono Pastore”, quite consistently over the Internet. I note that congregationis is a genitive. Why? Most congregations are simply “Congregatio Sororum...”. Can anyone explain? Riyadi (talk) 16:24, 1 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
