Untitled[edit]

The series is supposed to start in a town called Broken Bow, Oklahoma, but as one who grew up there I can say with certainty that the scenery in the show was not Broken Bow. Broken Bow lies in the foothills of the Ouachita Mountains, in southeastern Oklahoma. It is not flat and is not full of corn. It was founded by the Dierks Lumber Company and is surrounded by hardwood forests and Pine tree farms. I think the show confused Broken Bow, Oklahoma with Broken Bow, Nebraska. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ronnie2054 (talkcontribs) 19:52, 15 March 2006 (UTC-8)

The penultimate paragraph in the article Broken Bow, Oklahoma makes a similar statement, noting that "the locale in the Star Trek episode may refer to Broken Bow, Oklahoma's namesake Broken Bow, Nebraska." Glenn L (talk) 20:26, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Grain Silo[edit]

are we sure its a grain silo that klaang shoots, from the size of the explosion it would have to house some kind of fuel instead of grain --Chocrates 22:36, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In the observatory for the examination room where Klaang is being treated one of the Vulcans mentions that it was a methane explosion that destroys the silo and any trace of the others who were there (Suliban). I am supposing that it could have been some type of alternate energy source or possibly a conversion tank for animal waste to capture the resultant gas for use in other applications?

I thought the same at first, the explosion seemed implausibly large. But I quickly reconsidered because knowing about dust explosion even a grain silo could result in a spectacular explosion under certain conditions. Also (as mentioned) one of the Vulcans mentions that it was a Methane explosion. In agriculture methane can be a byproduct of fertilizer production. It is likely the corn waste was being processed using Anaerobic digestion to turn it into energy and fertilizer. It's moot, the plot section has been shortened to omit the silo explosion. -- 109.76.128.149 (talk) 14:13, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"Producers went to the trouble to hire someone to grow an entire field of corn for the pilot’s opening sequence, because cornfields were otherwise impossible to find at the time of year the pilot was filmed."[1]
They could have been producing ethanol from the corn which would add fuel to any explosion. -- 109.77.208.248 (talk) 00:26, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Footnote[edit]

Not sure to where the footnote refers. I looked but did not find. (RRWP) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.18.168.105 (talk) 21:19, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is that spelling (used in this article) acceptable? The linked article spells his name Zefram. Equinox 00:23, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Farmer Moore[edit]

I've read in few places that the farmer was named Farmer Moore after Ronald D. Moore [2] [3] although he is only listed as Ron King "Farmer" in the end credits. Maybe if the production section was expanded to include more details about the writing of the episodes and the other details like how the admirals (Forrest, Leonard, Williams) were named after original series actors, it could get a mention? -- 109.79.163.21 (talk) 23:10, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sushi[edit]

While filming the snow scene Linda Park missed her mark, and director James Conway accidentally called her "Sushi" instead of Hoshi, and "Everybody just about died from laughter."[4]

If the Production section were more detailed and actually mentioned the landing platform snow scene then maybe a fun anecdote like this could be included but the article is a bit too short for that at the moment. -- 109.78.208.111 (talk) 02:05, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
