Thanks Dcattell, for adding that useful information and links to the lead. I may eventually rework it into a new section under progress. It's largely based on Campany 2005 and 2009, and will discuss the legendary origins of Chinese agriculture, civilization based on cooking and eating grains, the state control of agriculture and sacrifice (of agricultural products), how xian "rejecting grains" allowed "rejecting feudal agricultural society", etc. If it's OK with you, I'll change the reflist footnote format back to the original simple WP:ADR format. I thought it might be good to add some general explanatory comments in the lead, so that the article would make more sense to general reader. I don't have a problem with the "simple WP:ADR format", as long as I don't have to learn about it by reading through the excessively verbose and jargony Wikipedia article about it. I went ahead and made the changes imitating your style. I think your ideas for working on the article are good, including moving the more specific stuff (like what I added) to a new section. Although I think it would be good to leave some general information about the importance of food in the historical context of Chinese culture). If it helps any, I did a little cleanup on the "Five Cereals (China)" article, and started an article on the "Boyi and Shuqi" brothers who rejected eating the feudal grains of Zhou after the Shang-Zhou transition. It's a bit along the lines of your plans above. I don't know if Boyi and Shuqi became xian; but, they were both awarded the rank of marquis in the Song Dynasty! Thanks again. You're modest about such productive editing. The Wugu article could still use some work and I'll try to come back later, and I like the righteous self-starvation legend about Boyi and Shuqi (neither of whom is listed in the Shenxian zhuan). I keep coming across more references (like Ma Gu and Wang Yuan) to xingchu 行厨 "traveling kitchen", which might be worth adding.
