Untitled[edit]

Why doesn't anyone write about Albert A. Pope?! I feel sorry for the next kid that has to do a report or powerpoint presentation on him! He did make a bicycle or something didn't he? They are indeed. But this is an encyclopedia designed to be written and edited by its readers. So if you see a gap, fill it! It's good that somebody started a page for Albert Pope. There are good references cited, but the article needs more info, especially about the cycling phase of his career.

I intend to add sections on Early Life, Civil War, and Early Business Career. The bicycle section needs more explanation. I will work on expanding it. I don't know enough about the Pope automobile to add any material.

There are some inaccuracies, I believe. For example, "Pope saw and became enthusiastic about bicycles" after the Philadelphia Exhibition, which is contradicted by the fact that he did not learn to ride a bicycle for another 14 months. Once he learned how to ride, he aggressively pursued the bicycling business. (see Epperson, Peddling Bicycles to America) Second, the Brevet Colonel commission should be de-emphasized. Pope bragged about it and insisted upon being addressed as "Colonel." That doesn't mean that Wiki should inflate its importance, even if Pope did.

Pope Manufacturing Company[edit]

The Pope Manufacturing Company should be its own section and article. All of the bicycle and automobile material should be under that heading or moved to the separate article on the company. Changes to categories[edit]

Categories should reflect only text supported in the article by credible sources. The article does not claim that Pope was a cyclist, so "American cyclists" is an appropriate category for this article. It does, however, document his career as an early automobile manufacturer.
