Page give a much needed update with some referenced info. I've only put in the stuff which really concerns me though - if anyone has sourced info about lifestyle, health, outreach, etc those would really help. Vegan Restaurants, African American Topics?[edit]

The vegan restaurants are located in the United States, not Israel- and are delicious. They have several communities here as well, i think the big one is in Chicago??. The group rejects the Talmud and the idea that Judaism is passed down through a person's mother. They also believe that modern-day Jews are not the descendants of the Twelve Tribes of Israel, and that modern day Jews have stolen the religion, language and culture of the "true Jews" drawing parallels to both cults and Christian Identity movement.

I've rewritten the (previously restored) passage in language more suitable to an encyclopedia. However, the suggested mention of the Khazars in particular would require a citation I don't have. (Noted on Deananoby2's Talk page.) -- 00:43, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling of name[edit]

The book "God, the Black Man, and Truth" has the author's name spelled "Ben Ammi." Why is it being spelled "Ben Ami" here? Badagnani 12:29, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

African American Topics?[edit]

According to the page's Edit summary of YegerMeister on April 21, 2007: "This topic is an Afriacn-American, as are all the members of this group." Polygamy vs. Polygyny[edit]

In a recent cleanup edit of the page, I'd moved the sentence "They practice polygamy" under the heading of Religious beliefs from its previous location in the initial paragraph—where it struck me as sensationalistic and out of place for an encyclopedia article. I also rewrote it as "polygyny," in keeping with what I understand of the community (i.e. that men may take multiple wives but not the reverse). However, I was unable to provide a citation for this, and Wikipedia disallows original research. Therefore, when reverting another's removal of this content, I restored "polygamy" as consistent with the originally cited source. Remove Reference of Polygamy!!!!!![edit]

You are mistaken in two points:
  • The sentence about polygamy is by no means random: it had been written on the page in an earlier edit, complete with a citation from a web source. The move under a heading is explained above.
  • This accusation that "[the] author [is] trying to make the group look bad" is unfounded. The material in this article has been written from a neutral point of view, citations of sources are included, and numerous editors have contributed to it. Polygamy is, unless proven otherwise, an accurate point of information about this group, and belongs in a description of its beliefs and practices. No value judgment is implied (except in your comment here).
The page's Edit history shows that you have repeatedly removed the polygamy content despite the fact that it's accompanied by a citation. An editor having sourced knowledge of contradicting facts can cite those and edit according to Wikipedia policy. Until such information is provided, removing this text is inappropriate and will be reverted. -- Deborahjay 20:24, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

w/e, all i was the sentence was random, and it was! Mention of polygamy but no mention of birth control forbidden? but sentence aint so random now, so i win.....

name of this group[edit]

I have never heard anyone use the name "African Hebrew Israelites of Jerusalem." They are known in Israel as the Black Hebrews (or the Black Hebrews of Dimona). The official name may be "Original African Hebrew Israelite Nation of Jerusalem," but I still think the name of the article should be Black Hebrews.--Gilabrand 07:34, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicate articles?[edit]

Can somebody please tell me why we have this article and the Black Hebrew Israelites article? Furthermore, there should be a group where the words, "African Americans mainly in the United States who believe they are descendants of the ancient Israelites" does not apply. Black Hebrew Israelites is about a number of groups with a wide range of beliefs and practices. This article is about a specific group located primarily in Israel.

Mailk pretty much covered it, but yes... This is an article about the specific group located primarily in Dimona, who followed the teachings of Ben-Ammi. They differ theologically, and in their history, from many other Black Hebrew groups. The other article is a general parent article of the movement. There are many other such articles about the groups of which you speak of, such as the Beta Israel. In addition to other less well-known groups, who hail from Africa, and have made aliyah. They are all clearly distinguished from this group, and from Black Hebrew Israelites in general; their history and practises are detailed in their respective articles. Hope that helps. New Edits (Nov. 13 2018)[edit]

After reading about this topic from credible books and other sources, I wanted to add some information to this page. I also added a small section "Liberia 1967-1969" for when the group resided there. I know the quote is a bit long but I felt it provided good insight into the group's sentiments at the time. I have not deleted anyone else's work; but I have rearranged some parts to help with the organization. Please let me know if there are any questions on what I have added!
