Too big[edit]

With a third of the year still remaining, this page - at 547,222 bytes - is currently the fifth largest on Wikipedia. How can it be reduced, or subdivided? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 16:47, 20 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Splitting it into separate articles seems like a good solution. See 2019 in sports for examples - much of the content is split into smaller articles such as 2019 in association football, 2019 in badminton, and 2019 in rugby union. Doing so would also probably make it far easier to maintain. Tymewalk (talk) 11:37, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal to split the page into sports by topic[edit]

I propose that the sports sections (or at least, some of them) be split into their own pages by topic, and the current content of the section is replaced with a "main" template. As I mentioned above, 2019 in sports already does this - see 2019 in sports#Badminton and 2019 in badminton for an example. While some sections (such as association football) already have their own pages, several sections such as 2022 in sports#Athletics and 2022 in sports#Motorsports are probably long enough to be articles in their own right. @Tymewalk: This is certainly the most sensible approach, and I support. This can go ahead now if anybody is willing to implement it. Onetwothreeip (talk) 09:19, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
