As the most important game in a popular sport (college football) I think we should have an article for each game, similar to the individual articles for the Super Bowls. Jayanta Sen 06:58, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Season vs Year[edit]

should this be titled by the calendar or the season, the game will take place one week into 2007, but will decide the 2006 season perhaps it should be 2006-07 Smith03 22:12, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't like 2006-07. Either 2006 or 2007. I think 2007 is should be preferred since it is then in agreement with how the rest of the bowl games. The first line should make it clear that it's for the 2006 season. So when there's the 2008 game for the 2007 season, if someone comes to the 2007 game by accident they will see it immediately and with a succession box or info in the header saying to goto the current game. If that's clear, I'll eat mud. --MECUtalk 19:40, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

anyone know what the halftime show is going to be? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.149.53.140 (talkcontribs).

I have no idea, but please keep in mind that this is not a message board for general discussion about the MNC - it is a talk page for discussing improvements to the article. You may have better luck finding an answer on a message board for OSU or UF. --BigDT 20:28, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Premature content fork[edit]

User:Jordanrschroeder posted the following to the message today the CFWP page as a notice of the existance of this new article:

2007 Florida vs. Ohio State BCS National Championship Game - This is similar to the other 2007 BCS article, but this one gives SPECIFICS about the two teams or will. The other one is a general one that WikiProject sets up every year. This one, as it gets larger, will have information about the coaches, team and what led up to the event. I don't think it should be deleted, it will just be a seperate (DIFFERENT) article. Anyone can help? That would be great.

We already have BCS National Championship Game 2007 for content about this game. The existing article is already the right place for the content you are proposing.

I am very much opposed to a content fork on this topic at this time. Especially since this is a game that has not even been played. How can a content fork possibly be needed? Why can't you cover what you want to cover at the pre-existing article?

I propose that 2007 Florida vs. Ohio State BCS National Championship Game be redirected to 2007 Florida vs. Ohio State BCS National Championship Game.

Please discuss here. Thank you, Johntex\talk 18:23, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rankings[edit]

Should the rankings be what they were before the game took place or what they were after the season ends? I believe they should be what they were when the teams played, not what they were as a result of that game or subsequent games? This is in regards to a change that just occurred as someone changed Florida to #1 and OSU to #2. I wanted to get feedback before reverting the change.--NMajdantalk 16:19, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that it should be the pregame rankings because that is who played in the game - #1 OSU vs #2 UF. --Mtjaws 17:17, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the rankings should be coming into the game. Johntex\talk 19:06, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Huge Upset?[edit]

Wasn't the game supposed to be a blowout in the other direction, with the Buckeyes double digit favorites? The Gators were not only underdogs, but were told they didn't deserve to be in the game. Yet the article does not mention that this was an upset. Super Bowl III uses the word upset, so should this one, IMO. CodeCarpenter 18:52, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OSU was definitely favored, but I don't recall by how many points. Whether a loss is s "blowout" or "huge upset" is very much a matter of opinion. Some people might say a blowout is 14 points, others may say 28, etc. Ideally, we would provide a reliable source for what the pre-game betting line was. Then the reader can draw their own opinion about whether it was a huge upset or a small upset or just pretty much a toss-up as to who would have been expected to win. Johntex\talk 19:08, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The spread was 8 points, Gator fans (many of us, notorious pessimists) expected to have our doors blown off. This was the second-greatest moment of our lives, and DEFINITELY an underdog story -- my OSU friend disagrees somewhat. She believes the story is not so much the Gators' 'underdoggedness' but was in fact OSU's massive hubris - they expected to breeze past us; they didn't believe we were worthy of playing a scrimmage, much less the Mythical National Championship. She may have a point there.

Also - this article sohuld mention (I didn't see it) that the OSU stud running back who ran back the opening kick for a TD was INJURED and OUT OF THE GAME because during his endzone celebration, a teammate rolled his ankle. He watched his team get their collective ass waxed from a pair of crutches on the sideline... again - Hubris Strikes.

Fair use rationale for Image:BCS.png[edit]

Image:BCS.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.
