Zukuma is a dance and music genre that originated in Angola. It is a style influenced by other genres such as Zouk, Kuduro, Kizomba, Kwassa, compas, and Amapiano.[1]
Characteristics[edit]
Zukuma's rhythm is similar to the Angolan Kuduro and Kwassa music genre from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The lyrics are usually very basic, and are usually forms of expression for social and political issues, most are sung in Portuguese. The musical genre represents African cultural and musical diversity, and is accompanied by contemporary dance and traditional dance.[2] Zukuma's first instrumental production began in 2022 in Angola's capital, Luanda. This style was created on July 1, 2022.[2][3][4]
