Ira Ingber (born March 29, 1950)[1] is an American guitarist, singer, songwriter, and producer based in Los Angeles, California. He has collaborated as a session and touring guitarist with artists such as Bob Dylan, Brian Wilson, Captain Beefheart, Bonnie Raitt[2], J. D. Souther and Canned Heat.[3]

Early life and family[edit]

Ingber was born in Minneapolis and raised in Los Angeles. His brother, Elliot Ingber[4], introduced him to the blues. Elliot's association with Frank Zappa's Mothers Of Invention band and later ventures established Ingber's connection to the music industry.[1]

Career[edit]

Mentored by Lowell George[5], Ingber recorded and toured throughout the 1970's and 1980's with Captain Beefheart[6], J.D. Souther, Karla Bonoff, Jennifer Warnes, Andrew Gold, and Bonnie Raitt. Ingber was hired by Bob Dylan[7] as a session guitarist on Empire Burlesque, Knocked Out Loaded and 2023's Shadow Kingdom.

Collaborating early on with Van Dyke Parks on Jump!, Ingber was encouraged to compose and produce music for film and television[8], scoring 1988 film Blueberry Hill[9] and appearing as a featured guitarist in soundtracks for Midnight Run[10], Eureka, Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead and Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

In 2015, he founded the Los Angeles-based band jackiO, in collaboration with Steve Bartek, John Avila and David Raven.
