Guidelines for addition[edit]

I have looked at some of these and there doesn't appear to be any guidance as to why or how it is added, the ones I have looked at were all uncited and unsupported in the body of the article...? imo to add this cat you need a citation to support the fact that they have been referred to as a black musician. Welcome to race and ethnicity categorisations on Wikipedia! This is a common problem with such categories. Cordless Larry (talk) 15:13, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have seen a few others, thanks for the welcome. I don't like this sort of cat .. I am left with the question.. How black do you have to be? I will when I have five mins and the energy for it, delete the uncited ones and see how many are left, regards. Off2riorob (talk) 16:22, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's a good idea. I don't really have an answer to your question as I'm as confused about this as you are. I presume that the category has just been added to articles based on editors' own judgements, which isn't very satisfactory. Cordless Larry (talk) 16:29, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I agree that appears to be a commonplace thing to do, but as you say its wrong, I have asked the creator of the cat to also comment. Off2riorob (talk) 16:32, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
A more radical option would be to nominate Category:Black British people by occupation and all of its sub-categories for deletion. I can't find equivalent categories for British people of others races and while I realise that that's not a reason for deletion in itself, there are clearly problems with such categorisations.
