During the last few months, I had some time off, so I looked at the pages relating to Islam on wikipedia. Over the last few years, a lot of incorrect material against Islam has built up on Wikipedia. I went through thousands of books in the London School of Oriental and African Studies library and on the internet. Looked through Sunni, Shia and the Roman books from that period. There is a lot of material on Wikipedia about Islam that is totally incorrect. One just has to look at the pages "Islamic views on slavery", "Muhammad and slavery" and "Ma malakat aymanukum". Even people Muhammad cared for deeply and provided for through the Bait Al Mall charity have been presented as slaves on wikipedia. Unfortunately the Muslims on Wikipedia spend more time fighting each other and discrediting people from the early history of Islam like Ali and Abu Bakr than they do actually going through wikipedia and correcting the incorrect material on Wikipedia that is in many cases totally incorrect and against Islam. In the process, unfortunately these arguments, give Muhammad and Islam a very bad name. I looked into Ali's family and Abu Bakrs family and realised that many early Scholars like Jafar al Sadiq and Qasim his grandfather from his mother side are as much related to Ali as they are to Abu Bakr. Ali even raised Abu Bakrs son Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr. Muslims are best off showing Ali's knowledge on the Ali's page and his scholarly achievements and his character. Fights between the Shias and the Sunnis give a very bad impression of Ali, Muhammad and Islam. The same is true on all the other Islam pages. Pushing sectarian views just gives a bad impression of Islam. Many of these views are based on history books written hundreds of years after the events and are exaggerated. Even Al Tabri and Nahj al-Balagha were history book written 300 years later. People ignore the Quran but concentrate on history books that were written 300 years later. Many of the conflicts on wikipedia are over the land at Fadak. Considering the level of resistance Muhammad was having at the time, I am sure many people at the time of Muhammad would have been saying Muhammad invented a religion to enrich his family. He took away the land from the Jews in Madina and gave it to his family members. Many people these days would then have said the same. You only get a complete picture once you read through the Sunni, Shia and the Roman books from the period. It was a tragic story of the Arabs going into Syria and Iraq that had just gone through the Byzantine-Sassanid Wars. Many people in Syria and Iraq hated each other. After going in, the Arabs from the desert started getting tempted by money and wealth in Syria and Iraq. What started as a small thing of Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr showing the Egyptians the house of Authman ended with Marwan and the Kawarij manipulating every one and a huge loss of life. Cousins fighting one another. Ali had a very difficult situation on his hand. Just image what was going through the minds of Hassan and Husein. Its a very tragic story, a lesson to all of us, a choice between Money and children or God. Aisha later realised she had been manipulated. When Marwan became the governor of Madina you could see the tensions between Aisha and Marwan. Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr and Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr were both killed by the umayyads. Later there were very close links between Abu Bakrs family and Alis family. Jafar al sadiq is a result of that. Its better to make the effort and find the truth, even if it hurts ones views and is contrary to ones views. If you have some time please look at the pages "Islamic views on slavery", "Muhammad and slavery" and "Ma malakat aymanukum". Try to be more constructive. We could change the future but not the past. GAN December 2013 Backlog Drive[edit]
In past Backlog Drives, the goal was to reduce the backlog of Good article nominations. In the upcoming drive, another goal will be added - raising as much money as we can for the Wikimedia Foundation. How will this work? Well, its pretty simple. Any user interested in donating can submit a pledge at the Backlog Drive page (linked above). The pledge should mention the amount of money the user is willing to donate per review. For example, if a user pledges 5 cents per review and 100 nominations are reviewed, the total donation amount is $5.00. At the time this message was sent out, two users have submitted pledges for a total of 8 cents per review. All pledges, no matter how much money, are greatly appreciated. Also, in no way is this saying you must make a pledge. |

March 2014 GAN Backlog Drive[edit]
It's that time again! Starting on March 1, there will be another GAN Backlog Drive! There will be several changes compared to previous drives:
- This drive will introduce a new component to it; a point system. In a nutshell, older nominations are worth more points than newer nominations. The top 3 participants who have the points will be awarded the Golden, Silver, or Bronze Wikipedia Puzzle Piece Trophy, respectively.
- Unlike the December 2013 Backlog Drive, earning an additional barnstar if you reached your goal has been removed.
- The allowance to have insufficient reviews has been lowered to 2 before being disqualified.
- An exception to the rule that all reviews must be completed before the deadline has been created.
Also, something that I thought I would share with all of you is that we raised $20.88 (USD) for the WMF in the December 2013 drive. It may not sound like a lot but considering that that was raised just because we reviewed articles, I would say that's pretty good! With that success, pledges can be made for the upcoming drive if you wish.

The Twelve Imams are the spiritual and political successors to the Islamic prophet Muhammad in the Twelver branch of Shia Islam. According to the theology of Twelvers, the Twelve Imams are infallible human individuals who not only ruled over the community with justice, but also were able to keep and interpret sharia. It is believed by Twelver Shia Muslims that the Twelve Imams were foretold in the Hadith of the Twelve Successors. The Imams were guided by secret texts in their possession, such as al-Jafr and al-Jamia. Ali (calligraphy pictured) was the first of the Twelve Imams, and, in the Twelvers' view, the rightful successor to Muhammad, followed by male descendants of Muhammad through his daughter Fatimah. Each Imam was the son of the previous Imam, with the exception of Husayn ibn Ali, who was the brother of Hasan ibn Ali. The twelfth and final Imam is Muhammad al-Mahdi, who is believed by the Twelvers to be currently alive, and hidden in the Major Occultation until he returns to bring justice to the world. All of the Imams met unnatural deaths, with the exception of the last Imam.

- I can change the date if you like, but May 13 is not going to be possible. That is a Tuesday, and TFL only runs on Mondays and Fridays. The 12th (a Monday) is available, but it's up to you whether you want the slot. Salam alaikum man, this might make you laugh. Seven years ago, you added a source by Fred Astren at Islamization of Iran but there is no title or ISBN number. I am working on an article about the Abbasid Revolution now and I have a feeling whatever that book is, it would probably be valuable. Jafar Panahi[edit]
Hello, A while back I was working on the Jafar Panahi page. As far as I know there is no full biography on Panahi so the article is a bit limited. The one section in the article that was already very large when I started working on it and that I have not significantly contributed to relates to his political imprisonment beginning in 2010. In my opinion this section needs a lot of work and clarification. I am not sure if all of the information is up to date and accurate and am concerned that it may currently be misleading. I have moved my response to you here from Mhhossein's page, as I didn't want to clutter her page up! I don't mind you intervening at all, every contribution is welcome. Basically I only copy-edit in Wikipedia, though I do check footnotes quite a lot (presently wading through the ISIS ones as you will see from the View History pages!). I haven't looked at the references in the ISIS article yet that are supposed to support the Wahhabism claim, mainly because I have steered clear of the subject as well beyond my expertise and knowledge. As I am cleaning up the footnotes in the ISIS article, I will have a look at this now, and those that don't support I will tag. As for the other article, on Wahhabism, what you say doesn't surprise me. Quite a lot of Wiki article footnotes don't support claims in the text, and this can go unnoticed and unrectified, sometimes for years, in my experience, going by the retrieval dates. Doubtless readers who do notice just say, "Well, it's Wikipedia, what can you expect?" Depressing. - Seyyed I might do that, after I recover from the exhausting battle I have been having with editors, two in particular, over exactly how to call ISIS a "terrorist" organization in the article. You say ISIS don't accept being called Kharijite and having looked at the Kharijite Wiki article I can see why. There is another question I have wondered about. Why don't ISIS like the "Daesh" name? They take that as an insult as well. Do you know why? On another point, I notice you speak Arabic, so perhaps you can help answer a question which is proving to be a bone of contention between me and another editor, who can speak Arabic (I can't). It's on the same article, ISIS, which I've noticed you have edited as well. What do ISIS now call themselves, "The Islamic State" or "Islamic State"? I haven't trawled through all the footnotes, but notice there are discrepancies in some of the articles in English. I came across a translation from the Arabic in one footnote (you click on a link for the English) and it says "Islamic State" without the "The". My adversary (!) insists the translation should be "The Islamic State" and Werldweyd(sp?) I notice once said the translation from the Arabic is "The Islamic State". I noticed there was once an unresolved dispute about this in the al-Baghdadi article as well. I do know "al" means "the", but beyond that I know nothing. What is the correct name, do you know? It would be nice to straighten this out as the ISIS article is hopelessly at sea on this, both versions are dotted throughout it. --P123ct1 (talk) 15:27, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

Seyyed: I think I understand now why you didn't think it mattered whether it was "the Islamic State" or "The Islamic State". I don't think Arabic makes the distinction in names of organisations, publications, etc between "the" and "The". In English a big fuss is made of this (as I know from my former employment). For example, one newspaper is called "The Times", never the "Times", and another is called "The Daily Telegraph", never the "Daily Telegraph". So I don't think it matters whether the ISIS article calls it "The Islamic State" or "the Islamic State", as you said, but there will need to be consistency in the article, one or the other, and I will handle that. --P123ct1 (talk) 14:12, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
- Hi! I think this is an important distinction to make, as it can mean two different things. ISIS is claiming to be THE Islamic State, not just AN Islamic State. For example, Iran claims to be AN islamic state (more specifically, an islamic republic), but ISIS is claiming to be THE only true, legitimate, etc., islamic state. WikiProject Good articles Future GAN Backlog Drive[edit]
Hello everyone! Hope you've all been having a great summer!
TheQ Editor recently proposed the idea of having another Backlog Drive in either September/October or November/December of this year. For those of you who have participated in the past two drives you know I was the one who organized them, however, come September, this will be my most important year in school so I will not be able to coordinate this drive (if it happens). TheQ Editor has volunteered to be a coordinator for the drive. If any of you would like to co-coordinator, please notify TheQ Editor on his talk page.
If you would be interested in participating in a Backlog Drive sometime before the end of this year, please notify TheQ Editor. Also, make sure to specify what month(s) work best for you.
At the time this message was sent out, the backlog was at 520 nominations. Since May, the backlog has been steadily increasing and we are currently near an all time high. Even though the backlog will not disappear over one drive, this drive can lead to several others which will (hopefully) lead to the day where there is no longer a backlog.
As always, the more participants, the better, and everyone is encouraged to participate!

GA Cup[edit]
Hello everyone! We hope you have all been having a great summer!
As we all know, the recent GAN Backlog Drives have not had any big impact on the backlog. Because of that, me (Dom497), Figureskatingfan, and TheQ Editor have worked on an idea that could possibly finally put a dent into the massive backlog. Now, I will admit, the idea isn't entirely ours as we have took the general idea of the WikiCup and brought it over to WikiProject Good Articles. But anyways, here's what we have in mind:
For all of you that do not know what the WikiCup is, it is an annual competition between several editors to see who can get the most Good Articles, Featured Article's, Did You Know's, etc. Based of this, we propose to you the GA Cup. This competition will only focus on reviewing Good articles.
For more info on the proposal, click here. As a FYI, the proposal page is not what the final product will look like (if you do go ahead with this idea). It will look very similar to WikiCup's page(s).
The discussion for the proposal will take place here. Please let us know if you are interested, have any concerns, things to consider, etc.

WikiProject Good Articles - GA Cup[edit]
 WikiProject Good articles is holding a new competition, the GA Cup, from October 1, 2014 - March 28, 2015. The Cup will be based on reviewing Good article nominations; for each review, points will be awarded with bonuses for older nominations, longer articles and comprehensive reviews. All participants will start off in one group and the highest scoring participants will go through to the second round. At the moment six rounds are planned, but this may change based on participant numbers. Some of you may ask: what is the purpose for a competition of this type? Consult[edit]
I have recently encountered an aggressive editor who insults me and my religion and makes personal attacks, and I would like your advice on how to handle this, please.
1- here, this editor, Andres Feder, insisted on insulting religion by repeating the phrase "degenerate religious thinking", and here by referring to “all religious fiction” and saying that "all religious texts are fictional", even when I told him that Wikipedia does not care what our beliefs are. He further insulted me by saying, "You can believe in whatever figments of imagination you want!", after which I warned him and asked him to respect the beliefs of others.
2- He always pretends that I am upset because of the policies, but I try to respect the policies and his behavior has irritated me.
-Me: "This is the last time you are insulting my beliefs, I respect yours so please respect mine."

- Editor: "If these policies cause you offence, you are free to set up your own wiki and use any sources you want there". [2]
-Me: "Of course We are not talking about the policies. The policies are highly required for maintaining an encyclopedia. This is you who causes offense to one's beliefs." [3]
3- The editor tries to use insulting sentences and examples even when we are discussing something else. When I asked "Lightbreather" to guide me on this, Feder came in and said " Not to support the Iranian dictatorship or any other church-state".[4]
Or here he used this example which is in fact an insult to Khomeini: "According to Ayatollah Khomeini, God likes sick-minded and deranged forms of punishment"[5]
4-I tried to solve the problem through his talk page, but he made more attacks and removed exchanges:[6]
There he said, "you expect me to respect someone who everyone knows was a deranged madman?" (referring to the Iranian Ayatollah Khomeini).
5- You gave him another request to be polite, but he removed that message, too: [7]

@Mhhossein and Anders Feder: I read your discussions from the beginning in the Talk:Arba'een to check the Etiquette. Let's suppose Anders Feder is right. However, you use negative prejudice, as if you are certain that Mhhossein wants to propagate his religious views. You could use polite manner instead of saying "teachings which are all religious fiction"[11] and [12]. You completely neglected most of Wikipedia:Civility. Request for checking persian wiki[edit]
Hello Seyyed. With regards to a proposed merger of the muslim holiday articles Mid-Sha'ban/Barat Night, I found that only the Persian Wikipedia has two separate articles as well. Since you speak Persian and are described on the Iran-Wikiproject as an expert in Iranian islamic matters, I would like to ask if you could please check the two Persian articles (Mid-Sha'ban and Barat Night). Aggravating news[edit]
I've seen the many images you uploaded to Wikipedia, and which were subsequently migrated over to Commons. I fully concede that you thought you were doing the right thing: Sajed.IR did (and still does) state that all its content is available under the GFDL.
Unfortunately, the people running Sajed.IR did such a slipshod job of maintaining the necessary provenance details that it's impossible to tell whether or not they actually had the copyright to any of the images, and therefore whether the release was legitimate. (And in fact, on at least one occasion, they "released" photos that were actually owned by the BBC.)
So we can't trust Sajed.IR's statements that their content is GFDL-available, and thus all the images you uploaded because you thought they were free, have to be deleted. You can still re-upload Sajed-sourced images as non-free, though. DS (talk) 00:24, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

who is called sunni?[edit]
Recently i have started editing on Shia–Sunni relations. There is an issue. At this article, a wahhabi muslim had been considered as sunni muslim and concludes that the Shia and Sunni don't have good relations, but in fact shia and wahhabi muslims don't have good relations. I think that should make a difference between sunni and wahhabi, because at recent years we see unity between shia and sunni in many muslim countries.
For example, we see this sentence at that article :"Some tension developed between Sunnis and Shia as a result of clashes over Iranian pilgrims and Saudi police at the hajj". This tension was happened between shia and wahabbi muslim no shia and sunni.

- @User:MezzoMezzo, Salam Alaykum, can you please help me with this question. From one view point, all of those who consider the Rashidun as legitimate Islamic rulers are Sunnis. This definition even contains Mutazilis. From the other view Sunnis follow particular schools of theology and Fiqh which are considered by Wahhabis as Bid'ah. On the other side Shias tolerate traditional Sunni schools and live with them peacefully in most areas, while they do not consider Wahhabis as Sunni and have negative view towards them. --Seyyed(t-c) 03:54, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
- Walaikum as salam, man I am sorry for being so late. Long, long story. Anyway, my attitude is to go by what sources say: anthropological and sociological studies consider Wahhabis a subcategory of Sunni because, as you hinted at, the mainstream/objective view is that Sunnism is determined by a sect's position on leadership in the beginning, i.e. the Rashidun or the Ahlul Bait. Or, in the case of Ibadis, some of the Rashidun and not others. The various relations and positions of modern day movements like Wahhabism, Deobandism, Barelvism etc. don't relate to that and thus would have no bearing, as there are even non-Wahhabis/non-Salafis among Sunnis who also don't follow one of the four traditional schools. Also, I would agree with the claim that Mu'tazilah were technically Sunnis and a number of modern academic professors have suggested as such, but unfortunately most Sunnis of all different varieties react too emotionally, sort of like on the issue of Ahmadiyya being Muslims or not, so discussion becomes difficult.

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite[edit]
Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! March Madness 2017[edit]
G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:
- tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
- updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
- creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.
As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.
The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.
The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

Questions Regarding Early Presidential Primaries (1940 and Back)[edit]
- I've been working collecting data on the results for the Democratic Presidential caucuses or state conventions that were held in earlier years, 1940 being the starting point given I was interested at the time in the Anti-Third Term movement that had sprung up then, and while I can't access all the data in question anyway (I'm using the New York Times as a source, but I'm not a subscriber and so can't look at the articles in detail), I've provided them in the talk pages. Having gotten down to 1928 now, however, I'm not certain how best to display the information given, and I'm not sure if there really is a precedent(s) for it given the operational differences between the Modern Primary and the more Archaic Primary of yesteryear. For example;
- In 1928 Al Smith clearly won the Democratic Presidential Preference Primary in Ohio over Senator Atlee Pomerene, but the latter was awarded the entirety of the delegation. The situation in question is in an article I provided on the talk page for the '28 Democratic Primaries, but when you have delegates not being bound or awarded based on the results of a Primary, should that be counted as a separate contest? How should we display that on a map? Should one be given preference?
- Depending on the year in question you either end up with a handful, none, or a whole slew of favorite-son candidates ready to represent State delegations, and these candidates technically have "won" delegates. However in some cases, like those I identified for the 1968 Republican nomination race, are far more than the infobox could possibly handle when combined with the actual candidates (even if we are just talking about candidates and favorite sons that won delegates, that would make 17). Should we give preference based on delegates won? On actual candidates vs. Favorite Sons? What about if they've withdrawn and endorsed a candidate? Should Favorite Sons be combined somehow (for map and infobox purposes) and explained separately in another section?
- In a number of the Presidential Primaries and even Caucuses I have encountered language that the delegates in question are officially unpledged or uninstructed, but have a strong preference or are generally understood for being for a certain candidate. Under those conditions, should those delegations be considered Unpledged, or should they be considered as being for the candidate? Should the votes of those delegations be included in a candidate's vote total?
- These are the major questions at the moment. I'll also be asking a few others Presidential Elections Wikiproject as well to chime in, so if you have any ideas on how best I should proceed, I'd ask that the responses be put into Talk:Democratic Party presidential primaries, 1932. As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.
The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.
The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

Centre of Muslims[edit]
As-Salam O Alaikum! Brother,
I recently created Wikiproject Centre of Muslims. It is created to improve the articles about places with more than 80% of Muslim Population. After sometime the percentage could be reduced to 50% (places with majority Muslim Population). Similar wikiprojects are working like in the case of [Australia], The only difference is that their scope is countrywide and scope of this Wikiproject is larger, i.e Muslim World.
It was put on Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:WikiProject Centre of Muslims because of solo participant. Someone also asked that "Would Wikipedia:WikiProject Islam be interested in this project as a Geography task force?" and I think that Centre of Muslims project should be merged with Wikipedia:WikiProject Islam's Geography task force. Can you please guide me regarding this?

April 2021 WikiProject Military History Reviewing Drive[edit]
Hey y'all, the April 2021 WikiProject Military History Reviewing Drive begins at 00:01 UTC on April 1, 2021 and runs through 23:59 UTC on April 31, 2021. Points can be earned through reviewing articles on the AutoCheck report, reviewing articles listed at WP:MILHIST/ASSESS, reviewing MILHIST-tagged articles at WP:GAN or WP:FAC, and reviewing articles submitted at WP:MILHIST/ACR. Service awards and barnstars are given for set points thresholds, and the top three finishers will receive further awards.
