Welcome!

Hello, Eagleash, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of your edits to the page Kevin Phillips (footballer) have not conformed to Wikipedia's verifiability policy, and may be removed if they have not yet been. Wikipedia articles should refer only to facts and interpretations that have been stated in print or on reputable websites or other forms of media. Always remember to provide a reliable source for quotations and for any material that is likely to be challenged, or it may be removed. Wikipedia also has a related policy against including original research in articles. As well, all new biographies of living people must contain at least one reliable source.

Again, welcome!  Drmies (talk) 14:45, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

Thank you. I was actually already aware of that. I did not get to reference to the CPFC website until after the entries were removed & have never got around to re-posting as several other amendments/developments have take place in the meantime.Eagleash (talk) 14:49, 13 February 2014 (UTC)

Terry Long

Hi there, I hadn't realised I clicked 'undo' indtead of just 'edit' when I was tidying up, so apologies for that. I do not own the article, you are free to make whatever constructive edits you wish. GiantSnowman 12:21, 20 August 2014 (UTC)

Many thanks for your changes, good stuff! GiantSnowman 09:50, 1 September 2014 (UTC)

US/UK English

Hi there, have a read of WP:ENGVAR, that should hopefully help you. GiantSnowman 15:29, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

Andrew Johnson (English footballer)

On the Andrew Johnson (English footballer) page, I linked his responsibility for coaching academy players to the Wiki page Youth system. But the link has been removed by another editor, using only an IP address (so am not certain whether creating a talk page for them is correct) & stating 'removed explanation of academy, Wiki is not a dictionary' (paraphrased). I was under the impression that it was a good idea to link articles to other relevant Wiki pages.... Eagleash (talk) 02:09, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

Hi Eagleash, I agree that your link was decent. I (a sports idiot) would not know what "academy" meant in this context had you not provided a wikilink. Now typically we try to keep duplicate wikilinks to a minimum (please see WP:OVERLINK) but I don't have a problem with it here. The lead section is expected to summarize the content in the body, so it is not typically a problem to have a wikilink in the lead that is repeated in the infobox, the body, or in each unique table. I don't think your edit contravenes WP:OVERLINK. Hope that helps! Cyphoidbomb (talk) 02:26, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
Hi Cyphoidbomb; Thank you for your help & for reverting the edit by IP whatever..... It did seem a little heavy handed to me, but I'm still quite new to this & easily confused :). But my own self made rule is to leave others work alone unless there's a glaring error of some sort, it shouldn't be a competition really. Also for the reason stated logic would indicate both links should be deleted.Eagleash (talk) 03:00, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
No probs! I don't think their edit was adequately explained. Maybe the next time they revert they'll be better able to express themselves. :) Cyphoidbomb (talk) 03:45, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

Taylor and Summersby

Regarding Taylor, there is no need for any admin intervention, I have simply removed the mention of Cringlewood as not supported by any reliable sources. You are completely free to challenge and remove comments which are not supported by reliable sources.

Regarding Summersby, that is completely fine. He is notable as he made 275 appearances in the Football League. You do not have to create a 'complete' article, creating a basic 'stub' simply means that others can help with research, expansion, and improvement of the article. GiantSnowman 06:59, 6 September 2014 (UTC)

Certainly; don't be afraid to be bold and make 'big' edits like that. GiantSnowman 07:56, 6 September 2014 (UTC)

Your submission at Articles for creation: Roy Summersby (footballer) has been accepted

Roy Summersby (footballer), which you submitted to Articles for creation, has been created.

ISBNs lacking in article

I have twice tried asking this Q. at the Teahouse but neither attempt was added to the list for discussion! Stumbled upon an article (Eoin Young) which is tagged as lacking ISBNs. A short search reveals these to be available on publisher's or seller's websites, for example here. This seems such a simple fix that it leads me to wonder if it is acceptable? Refs could be added if thought necessary but sites might change & not link correctly after a while. Thanks. Eagleash (talk) 15:22, 10 October 2014 (UTC)

The ISBNs and other directory-type data wouldn't need sourcing; as nothing should be sourced to an involved commercial site anyway, its fine just to add them, though you could give the site you got them from in your edit summary. 108.85.34.57 (talk) 15:37, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
Thanks.

Disambiguation link notification for October 25

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Phil Holder, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Kilburn. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Re: David Payne

I just got your message about the copy edit tag. I am just about to leave for work though, so I will be happy to go through things with you when I get back. --Skamecrazy123 (talk) 12:26, 6 November 2014 (UTC)

Thanks, that's fine. Eagleash (talk) 13:09, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
First of all, I stumbled across the page at about 6 in the morning and found a couple of things (a misspelling and a couple of erroneous commas), so I tagged it so that, if I forgot about it or didn't manage to get to it, someone else would. As it stands I have gone through it again and correct a few tiny mistakes. If there are any concerns about the edits I have made, please feel free to let me know, and I will be happy to discuss them. --Skamecrazy123 (talk) 00:08, 7 November 2014 (UTC)
Hello again. Thanks for responding, & also for efforts to improve the page. I'm afraid that there are a couple of things. I've seen a number of edits where the wording has been amended from "a retired English (insert bio-type)" to "an English retired etc" (I will admit to having done this myself too!)....the point being that the subject is still English but retired from (in this case) football. (With even comment that "whoever" "is still English" being made in the edit summary). Fulfill with a double "L" is US English not the proper (UK) version :P. As the subject is English (& so am I) it should be single "L". Brackets & commas are also moot but won't grumble about that. It is also I believe an Americanism to say "was given" with regard to shirts etc. UK might say "was given squad No. X" now players keep a number all season, but not when it comes to shirt numbers 50 years ago. Sorry, don't mean to cause offence. Regards. Eagleash (talk) 00:43, 7 November 2014 (UTC)
No offence caused at all. I've been on hiatus for a few months and need to ease myself back into things. I appreciate you pointing them out. -Skamecrazy123 (talk) 00:49, 7 November 2014 (UTC)

Category:Formula One cars

Hi Eagleash. FYI, it's not necessary to put articles into Category:Formula One cars if they are already in one of the sub-categories, e.g. Lotus 72 does not need to go into Category:Formula One cars because it's already in Category:Lotus Formula One cars - see WP:SUBCAT for more information. I have reverted the addition of Category:Formula One cars to Lotus 72, Ferrari 312, Ferrari 312T and Cooper T81. Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 00:16, 11 November 2014 (UTC)

Right. Clear as..... Eagleash (talk) 01:20, 11 November 2014 (UTC)

Just created a draft article - name as section title. Unfortunately when I started it, I somehow did not go through the article wizard, as I have done before and thinking I was saving a draft, accidentally created an entry in the article space. I then moved it into draft (creating a re-direct) & am now in a position to move it back into main article space. My concern is how to fix any re-direct problems? Secondly there is already an article Peter Johnson (footballer) (different player) and I was wondering when (or if) it would be appropriate to move this other article to incorporate the year of birth in the title. Thanks. Eagleash (talk) 15:41, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

I have deleted the redirect to clear the way for a move, but in fact "Peter Johnson (footballer born 1954)", with the birth date within the brackets, would be the usual style. You could use WP:HATNOTEs to link the articles and prevent confusion. JohnCD (talk) 16:25, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
Hello JohnCD, thanks for your help and advice. I can change the name when I move into article space. I haven't used "hatnotes" before so will have to swot up on that!! But there's always help available (from such as your good-self) when I mess up. Thanks again. Regards. Eagleash (talk) 16:33, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

Hi, DPL bot; Thanks but, yes I did intend to point to disambiguation pages for Peter Johnson in the hatnotes on the 2 footballer pages. It does direct people to others of the same name if they land on the wrong page. The article for Peter Johnson (footballer born 1954) is not yet reviewed. When it is I will raise the issue with the reviewer & it will corrected if necessary. Thanks again. Regards, Eagleash (talk) 12:50, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
Fixed on review by patroller; hatnote amended & other page moved, which was what I thought should happen in the first place.:P (See section above).

Motorcycling Wikiproject

Welcome to the Motorcycling WikiProject. Hopefully you have a good time, start many new articles and can contribute lots to the existing ones as we need that. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 17:35, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

Hi ww2censor. Thanks for the welcome. I aim to contribute to as many articles as I can, & hope to be of use to the project. I currently have one article in draft form, on which I'm a bit stuck for info. at the moment, but I'll get it done eventually. Regards. Eagleash (talk) 20:35, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
Thanks and good luck. ww2censor (talk) 21:01, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

Web citations

When writing citations to a web page, what should go in the field "archiveURL"? (The examples I've seen have a different URL to the actual web page.)

Thanks. Eagleash (talk) 23:25, 28 November 2014 (UTC)

That field is meant for web pages that have been archived by something like the Wayback Machine; it's used either pre-emptively for pages that are likely to vanish, or to recover web pages that have been deleted already. When the page that's linked to is live, use of archiveurl is optional. Huon (talk) 23:41, 28 November 2014 (UTC)

Template loop

{{help me}} I attempted to start an infobox (using "Infobox Racing Driver") on Andrés Méndez but got message "template loop detected". I searched templates and got the same message when clicking on the template. I've been unable to find any info on what this means or more importantly how to fix it. Thanks. Eagleash (talk) 21:17, 30 November 2014 (UTC)

Try using {{Infobox racing driver}}. I'll redirect the other one (upper case name {{Infobox Racing Driver}}) to that. Best, Wbm1058 (talk) 22:15, 30 November 2014 (UTC)
Thank you message left on Wbm talk page. Eagleash (talk) 02:37, 3 December 2014 (UTC)

Response

See WT:FOOTY#Captaining non-league teams for more info, and feel free to join the discussion. In short, I don't believe that captaining a non-league team is a claim to notability, plus there must have been probably well over a hundred (almost entirely non-notable) players who have captained a club like Tonbridge down the years and would be eligible for inclusion based on that criterion............ -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 17:10, 28 December 2014 (UTC)

Agreed! Eagleash (talk) 02:45, 29 December 2014 (UTC)

Flags for F1 drivers

At the moment, after long discussions, there is no consensus that WP:INFOBOXFLAG applies to F1 drivers. The concept of sporting nationality was widely debated, but the upshot was that there's no agreement to remove flags from F1 infoboxes. Some other sports (tennis, golf) are in a similar situation. One point is that there was no real support for flags in articles about drivers who do/did not compete in F1, i.e. lower formulae drivers should probably not have flags. Cheers, Bretonbanquet (talk) 11:35, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

Cool, I guess not everyone would have seen those discussions. Good work lately, by the way, I've seen some great additions and expansions recently. Cheers, Bretonbanquet (talk) 12:26, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
Haha, rest assured, many pairs of eyes are watching! Certainly with regard to F1 articles, if people don't go in and edit your work or revert you, that's a sign that people have seen it and liked it :) Bretonbanquet (talk) 13:06, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

Your edits to Derek Minter

ThanQ for your contributions. I noticed that you have added BSN as a citation for Derek's death. Three uncited additions were made before any news sources were available, which eventually generated the Dutch source; I specifically avoided BSN when it came on as I believe they scraped most of the content from Wikipedia, most of which I wrote. A lot of internet sources are unregulated, ie. not under the auspices of an independent publisher, so Wikipedia content ends up being cited on...Wikipedia. It's called circular. Often it's a good thing to cross-source where possible.

It was an awkward time with the New Year period and not much happening. No harm done - I could have cited the Facebook page, but would have preferred BBC or a daily 'paper and I've not looked for a couple of days. If you've not seen it, there are some nice pics at the Facebook page 'The Mint'. I'd still like a date for renaming the straight if you ever notice one. rgds.--Rocknrollmancer (talk) 16:14, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

Wikitalics Project?

Nope, it's not a Project, it's a personal Thing for me. ;p I remove italics for anything that isn't obviously in need of emphasis, like (in that case) the fact it's SOHC or not. I reserve italics for book titles and ship names (it appears WP uses ital for movies, but I don't; I was taught to use quotes, but it appears that standard has changed). If you're inclined to the same thinking, welcome aboard. :D TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 16:07, 10 January 2015 (UTC)

Johnny Berry

A strange one, the new website is indeed used on Wikipedia so it's acceptable, and I not it mentions the name issue - we'll raise at WT:FOOTY. GiantSnowman 09:27, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

Organized F1 work

Hey Eagleash! It seems like the two of us are quite similar. I have been editing Wikipedia, F1-related stuff in particular, for quite some time and more broadly since the beginning of the year. I would like to start working through the articles concerning F1 more organized, maybe splitting up work between a couple of people and then making copyedit-runs of whatever the others have been doing. Maybe you would be interested in joining me? Best wishes from Berlin! Lukas Zwerg Nase (talk) 15:44, 27 January 2015 (UTC)

Repco Brabham

This is the Brabham badge on a Ford-engined BT6. [1] Conrete enough? --Falcadore (talk) 01:00, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

But that is a BT6, not a BT7. Apparently, the book by Alan Henry from 1985 talks about the Repco sponsorship deal. Can someone check in there? Cause in the Brabham article it only states the name Repco-Brabham for 1966 to 1968. Zwerg Nase (talk) 11:14, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
OK forget that, I guess I have to agree, considering this picture of a BT7: [2] Zwerg Nase (talk) 11:20, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
