Summary

Description The fated Pioneer E launch vehicle. Pioneer 10 was supposed to launch on this long-tank Delta launch vehicle. The Delta was composed of parts from the Thor, an intermediate-range ballistic missile, as its first stage, and the Vanguard as its second. A first stage hydraulics failure occured and the spacecraft was destroyed by range safety protocol on 27 Aug 1969 .
