Summary

Description
English: The clothing of Han women during the 19th century. Under the Manchu government's oppression, Han Chinese people were forced into wearing Manchu garments, but women were an exception. As a result, Han women's clothing during the Qing dynasty drastically changed from its majestic look prior to the Ethnic Han Ming dynasty. The top ao was changed into a variation of the Manchu qizhuang, while the mamianqun skirt, which inherited the Ming style of clothing, was also influenced by Qing-style patterns. Women wore this exotic mix of clothing until the ROC period (1912-1949), where the cheongsam came to popularity.
